My main issue with this one is that it's all random syllables right now, rather than the consistency of the previous method. The audio is recorded and handled much like in the previous description, and blended to sound more natural. The next step uses an RNG, with numbers associated with recorded audio files, to decide which syllables will be used. For example, the word "Ass" has one syllable, but in Animal Crossing, it would be said as "A-S-S," thus stretchibg the word out longer than it actually is. By dividing it by two, you get fewer syllables and word sounds are more realistic in Animal Crossing, you hear every single letter being said, and that's simply not how real language sounds. The second method, and likely the one I will be going with, counts the number of characters in a word, and rounds it up to an even number, then divides it by two. And unless you do it horribly wrong, its not going to be much of an issue with the CPU anyway. This might take up slightly more processing power, but it will reduce the amount of audio you will need, thus reducing the file size.

Keep in mind, it doesn't take but a fraction of a second to say a letter!ī) Rather than editing manually, see if you can write a script or something to automate the techniques in (A), so that each letter stops by the time the next is said. Then use the full-length audio on the last letter of a word, because the space would give it enough time to roll out properly.

When played in rapid succession, the fading helps the audio blend together nicely.

You can either:Ī) Use audio editing software to manually edit each syllable to fade out a bit at the end of the audio, based on the length of time you need for each character. When recording, record the audio as you would for problem (3) in your post. If you have a system for typewriter text in place already, then finding out the speed of the characters should be easy - just check the math! This, in itself, helps solve problem (1).

Then, you have to write some code that plays back the sounds at the same rate as the characters roll across the screen. In Animal Crossing, it is literally the letter being said - A, B, C, etc.

As for how to play them in sequence i would use a generic loop to count down from 5 or whatever the length of one of your clips is and when it reaches 0 play an audio one shot and then begin again. The issues you are having with bad popping are usually due to the method in which you recorded the sounds, and or an unclean slice of the track. In unity create a script to play 3 or 4 random ones in a row Take that recording into a program like audacity and split it into smaller sections, then import to unity. Perhaps the simplest way to emulate this without true text to talk would be to use that site or others like it, type some generic gobbledegook to just get a mix of vowels and consonant sounds You can try ii out by using this site, typing in some text, then selecting effect -> speed then level = fastest Its actual text to talk, but sped up probably 4 or 5x Replied to wrong person-excuse the double post I tried recording myself going "ble", but depending on how I edit it, it ends up sounding eitherġ) completely unrelated to the text (if it's on it's own timer or only playing when the previous "ble" has finished)Ģ) like a machine gun (if I make it short enough to not overlap itself when I play it with every character)ģ) okay, but with occasional horrible popping sounds (if I make it long enough to sound vaguely like a voice, but have it play with every character thus overlapping itself)Ĭan anyone give me some advice on best practices for making "blarble"? Should I use a synthesizer? How do I avoid the three problems above? From what I can tell, there isn't a standard word for the little blip or vaguely human noises that sometimes accompany the text in typewriter style textboxes.ĭoes anyone have a good idea on how to make these not sound terrible? They serve good effect in making the characters feel alive in both undertale and animal crossing, so I'd like to use them in a game I'm working on. I've been trying for hours to figure out what to google to search for discussions on this topic, but I'm at a loss.
